Why use Botox® Therapy?
Botox® is a very popular cosmetic procedure. It’s use has been exponentially on the rise in the U.S. over the last decade. Clinically tested and approved, it’s a safe and effective method of smoothing out your wrinkles. Botox® also has several other surprising health benefits. It can treat a range of ailments you wouldn’t expect.
BOTOX can treat wrinkles and lines around your eyes, on your forehead and on the rest of your face. BOTOX blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. When a muscle gets injected, it no longers contracts. This causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. This effect on the muscles is temporary: BOTOX will wear off overtime. There have been studies, though, that show if you continue to do BOTOX over a long period of time affected muscles will start to naturally get more relaxed and require less frequent treatments.
While BOTOX is a very effective treatment, there are some types of wrinkles that it won’t be able to treat. Wrinkles caused by sun damage won’t respond to BOTOX. It’s important to take care of your skin all year long. While BOTOX can definitely help you maintain a healthier and more youthful appearance, the injections won’t do you any good in the long run if you don’t take care of yourself. Use sunscreen as much as possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun when you can and stay from tanning booths and anything else that could irritate your skin.
Some cosmetic procedures can take their toll. Certain procedures could put you at risk for moderate-to-severe bruising or internal bleeding. And many treatments require extensive recovery periods that can be both uncomfortable and exhausting.
This is one of the areas where BOTOX really shines. When it is administered properly BOTOX is a very safe process. BOTOX has a minimal recovery time and usually includes no noticeable side effects. Since it was approved by the FDA in 1989, there have been no documented cases of either fatalities or serious side effects as a result of BOTOX treatments. If you need to get a fast-acting and effective cosmetic procedure done that’s virtually risk-free, BOTOX is going to be your best bet.
Getting cosmetic surgery done takes time. You have to prepare yourself for it, then you have to take time off to get the work done and recover from it.
One of the biggest advantages that BOTOX has is that it’s a very quick and convenient treatment. An average injection shouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes to administer, and results are usually apparent within two days of the treatment. Whereas some cosmetic procedures might require you to be bedridden for a few days afterwards, with BOTOX you don’t have to put your life on hold. You can get an injection done in the middle of a work day and still have more than enough energy and mobility after it to get through the rest of your day without any difficulty.
Do you regularly suffer from migraine attacks? BOTOX can help. A series of BOTOX injections can significantly reduce the occurrence of migraines. It does this by relaxing the muscles that are responsible for the onset of these headaches. It also assists with blocking the sensory nerves that send the pain signals through to the brain.
Did you know that BOTOX can help you deal with excessive hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis is the clinical term for excessive perspiration. While heavy sweating may not seem like a serious problem, hyperhidrosis can have a very negative impact on self-esteem.
Luckily BOTOX can be used to treat this condition! BOTOX isn’t a permanent solution for treating hyperhidrosis, however: A course of injections can last for up to seven months.
*Certain complex procedures may be referred to a plastic surgeon.
More about Botox® Therapy
BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is indicated in adult patients for the temporary improvement in the appearance of:
– Moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity
– Moderate to severe lateral canthal lines associated with orbicularis oculi activity
– Moderate to severe forehead lines associated with frontalis activity
Lack of Interchangeability Between Botulinum Toxin Products
The potency units of BOTOX® Cosmetic are specific to the preparation and assay method utilized. They are not interchangeable with other preparations of botulinum toxin products and, therefore, units of biological activity of BOTOX® Cosmetic cannot be compared to nor converted into units of any other botulinum toxin products assessed with any other specific assay method.
Spread of Toxin Effect
Please refer to Boxed Warning for Distant Spread of Toxin Effect.
No definitive serious adverse event reports of distant spread of toxin effect associated with dermatologic use of BOTOX® Cosmetic at the labeled dose of 20 Units (for glabellar lines), 24 Units (for lateral canthal lines), 40 Units (for forehead lines with glabellar lines), 44 Units (for simultaneous treatment of lateral canthal lines and glabellar lines), and 64 Units (for simultaneous treatment of lateral canthal lines, glabellar lines, and forehead lines) have been reported. Patients or caregivers should be advised to seek immediate medical care if swallowing, speech, or respiratory disorders occur.
Serious and/or immediate hypersensitivity reactions have been reported. These reactions include anaphylaxis, serum sickness, urticaria, soft-tissue edema, and dyspnea. If such reactions occur, further injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic should be discontinued and appropriate medical therapy immediately instituted. One fatal case of anaphylaxis has been reported in which lidocaine was used as the diluent and, consequently, the causal agent cannot be reliably determined.

Serious adverse reactions, including excessive weakness, dysphagia, and aspiration pneumonia, with some adverse reactions associated with fatal outcomes, have been reported in patients who received BOTOX® injections for unapproved uses. In these cases, the adverse reactions were not necessarily related to distant spread of toxin, but may have resulted from the administration of BOTOX® to the site of injection and/or adjacent structures. In several of the cases, patients had pre-existing dysphagia or other significant disabilities. There is insufficient information to identify factors associated with an increased risk for adverse reactions associated with the unapproved uses of BOTOX®. The safety and effectiveness of BOTOX® for unapproved uses have not been established.

Smoothing lines
Smile lines, which can be caused by sun exposure, smoking, or just as part of the natural course of aging, are wrinkles of varying depths that appear around the corners of the mouth. As the name suggests, they may be more visible when you smile.
Botox® is a nonsurgical treatment that temporarily freezes or weakens the injected muscle. Your dermatologist or plastic surgeon will use a small needle to inject the substance into the facial muscles below your skin, and your wrinkles should be less visible within a few days.

Contour
Your facial appearance is influenced by the location and size of facial muscles. The masseter muscle plays a large role in determining how square or how round your face is. Botox® injections into the masseter muscle can help to reshape the face, creating a favorable outcome.
Western society has defined the ideal female face as being oval-shaped with a smooth contour. A square jawline is more commonly perceived as masculine. Female patients with a square jawline usually have this feature as a result of masseter muscle hypertrophy.

Face lift
Botox® facelift is used to treat the Galbella (between the brows), forehead and crow’s feet. However, expert injectors are capable of utilizing Botox® to treat other areas of the face for a rejuvenated appearance.
The benefits of these other areas can include the following enhancements below. The key is to do your research and choose an expert injector who customizes Botox treatments for each patient to fit their individual needs.
Diminish the appearance of neck bands Eyebrow lift Tighten the jaw line Reduce nasal flaring Minimize fine lines on the sides of the nose known as “bunny lines” Raise the corners of the mouth Improve the appearance of the skin by reducing the “orange peel” look In general, botox treats the“dynamic lines” that are caused by the movement of facial muscles.
